Black to Comm - Hotel Freund

Whiny synthesizers of dread make way for crackly ambient lines from records dug up in a cemetery which decay into a distorted scratched CD found on schoolhouse steps during recess.

There’s three things you should know about Morgonjuice:
1) They’re Danish.
2) They make that kind of really cheery chiptune fueled bit-pop
3) Their album is freely downloadable from their site.

They remind me a bit of Swedish 047 at their happiest and, indeed, the name Morgonjuice and their track “Godmorgon, Discovery!”, embeded above, seem to be some kind of overt reference to them. 047’s fantastic Robopop – Vi tar CD:n dit vi kommer, to this day one of my favourite chiptune releases, has a track called “God Morgon 047”. I don’t know what the actual connection between them is, other than Oresund Bridge, but I like ‘em both.

Oh, hello.

Putting together two long mixes of bleepy, chiptuney, hip hop and the like has made me tired of that genre for a little while and I’ve been listening to more ambient and/or instrumental stuff lately. One such act that I’ve been enjoying is The Advisory Circle.

It’s hard to describe what their sound entails. It’s a kind of retro nostalgic look at old British government programs and notices and the types of music you might find therein. It’s as though these old over-the-air shows are traveling through time being picked up by some modern midi controller hooked up to a MacBook.

The above track, Eyes Which Are Swelling, is one of the more musical ones on the album, lacking in clear spoken, or background, samples or weird, re-edited conversations. It’s a pleasant change from the wahh wahh wahhh pedals of dubstep.
